Mattia Metiu

Independent developer · Applied Sciences student · Italy

I build open-source things. Some are AI, some are not, most started as an idea that would not leave me alone. Writing software since I was twelve, and I film part of the mess on YouTube.

Background

  1. Age 12

    Parlot

My first real project: a voice agent for the PC. It listened, understood a spoken command and acted on the machine. Written in Python, entirely by hand — back then there was no model to write it for me. There is a video of it running.

  2. Age 14

    PiramidKid

My first published video game, an adventure released on Google Play. Designed, built and shipped on my own — the first thing I made that anyone could download.

  3. 2025

    YouTube channel

Started @metiu-tek, where I show what I am building and how it actually works.

  4. 2026

    Local-first AI tools

Vortelio, a local AI platform in one binary. TubeAssistant, a YouTube channel that runs itself. vedit, a video editor an AI can drive. All open source, all running on your own machine. Alongside that, my first collaborations on YouTube and my first work on real projects with other people.

What I do

Development
Go, Python, C# and the web stack — HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Desktop tools, web apps, agents, MCP servers and command-line software, built end to end.
3D modelling
Parametric modelling in FreeCAD, from a measurement to a part ready for the printer.
3D printing
Not just the model: calibration, materials, and fixing the prints that come out wrong.
Blender
VFX and 3D animation: scenes, motion, compositing and rendering.
Video editing
Cutting, sound, colour and the finishing that turns raw footage into a piece worth watching.
Graphics
Thumbnails, covers and the small pieces of visual design a project needs to be seen.
Electronics
Arduino and microcontrollers — the side where software has to meet a physical circuit.
Machine learning
Building neural networks from scratch — classifiers, linear and non-linear regression — adapting existing ones through distillation, fine-tuning and LoRA, and running them locally with llama.cpp, diffusers and Whisper.

Write to me here — an idea, a problem worth solving, or work you want done. GitHub, X and a direct message on Instagram work too.

Pitch me something

An idea, a tool that should exist, a problem worth solving. Everything gets read, but the pile is long — an answer can take weeks.

Want yours read first? The runner is at the top of the page. Get to 5000 m and this card changes.
